Continuing with my Beaumont trip on Tuesday, I visited the Art Museum of Southeast Texas. Although small, the museums has some fun pieces of art and free admission. The galleries are well-lit and easy to navigate, with benches. In addition to free parking in a good sized lot and nearby, well-kept sidewalks, it's a highly accessible museum.
The main exhibit at this time is "David Cargill: The Lighter Side", featuring the sculpture of a local artist. His pieces are often whimsical and energetic as he explores the themes of family, love, and play.
The café features "Cat Holtzclaw: Solace on the Sand", a collection of seashell collages by another local artist. Several other works of art are hung on the walls around the atrium and in a small auditorium.
Additionally, the museum has a small sculpture garden and several modern art installations around the exterior.
If you are in Beaumont and want to have a fine art experience without a time commitment, this museum is the perfect opportunity.
